Getting to the Washington Airports
So, you've consulted our
Flying Cheap
page, decided that the best airfares in the Northeast are in Washington, and
want to know when you can leave? Not so fast - before you choose to fly
out of Washington, realize that it takes time and extra money to get there, and
thus, it's important to consider those factors when making your decision.
However, if the savings are just too great to pass up, then check out the
following directions for getting to either
Dulles (IDA) or
Washington National
- AKA Ronald Reagan (DCA):
1) Get to Washington's
Union Station, via car, train, or
bus. We've got specific directions
here.
Car: (Time: 2-1/2 hours, Cost: $5 - for gas)
Train: (Time: 2-1/2 hours, Cost: $100 - roundtrip)
Bus: (Time: 4 hours, Cost: $50 - roundtrip)
2) If you're going to Dulles, take a
Metro train towards Shady Grove, getting off
at the
Metro Center station and transferring to the Orange Line. From there,
take a train towards Vienna/Fairfax, getting off at
West
Falls Church station. (Time: 35 minutes, Cost: $2.10 - $2.40)
If you're going to Washington National, take a
Metro train towards Shady Grove, getting off
at the
Gallery Place/Chinatown station and transferring to the Yellow Line.
From there, take a train towards Huntington, getting off at
National Airport station. (Time: 25 minutes, Cost: $1.10 - $1.45)
3) If you're going to Dulles, take a
Washington Flyer bus from the station to
the airport. They run every half-hour. (Time: 25 minutes, Cost: $14
- roundtrip)
If you're going to Washington National, you're already at
the airport, between Terminals B & C. A free shuttle runs to Terminal A
from the train station.

Dulles: (Time: 1 hour, Cost: ~$18 - roundtrip)
Washington National: (Time: 25 minutes, Cost: ~$2.50 - roundtrip)
